Ways to Get Involved

Volunteer Monitors

The Land Trust protects over 435 properties across Minnesota with conservation easements.  In keeping accreditation requirements, we monitor each protected property annually. It's a big job and one we couldn't do without help from volunteers.

Volunteer monitors attend a training session in the spring and are then assigned to monitor 1-3 properties during the monitoring season, which runs from June-October. Volunteering for the Land Trust as a monitor is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while helping to protect land throughout the State. If you'd like to help, send us an email here.

Other ways to volunteer

Other opportunities for volunteering are:
  • helping in the office with occasional mailings or data entry
  • photographing protected sites or events (experienced photographers with advanced equipment)
  • participating in events (planning, working and clean up)

Experience directly related to land conservation and natural resource protection is always welcome.

Unique volunteering opportunities for landowners

Our landowners are often our best volunteers since they are familiar with conservation easements and with the work of the Minnesota Land Trust.  Many of our landowners serve as volunteer monitors, while others volunteer to host a Land Trust event or to discuss the easement donation process with other interested landowners.
